Good News For Under Sixes

I am thrilled the Waihopai Health Services medical centre has signed up to free doctor visits for children under six.

This scheme is an important preventative health measure, as it means parents will be more likely to take their child to the doctor for treatment before their condition becomes worse.

It will also help reduce the number of children turning up at our busy emergency department with an illness that a GP could have treated.

I’m keen to meet with the other health professionals not signed up to the scheme to understand the barriers that prevent those surgeries doing so.

Waihopai Health Services has announced it had reached agreement with the Southern Primary Healthcare Organisation to provide under sixes enrolled with the practice the standard consultations at no charge, starting on 1 November.
